Troop 1906 - Gum Springs, VA 

In 2004, Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc. approached Rev. Dr. Darrell K. White, Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., about a joint partnership to co-sponsor a Boy Scout troop to serve the surrounding historic Gum Springs and Alexandria Virginia community.

 

The troop has been adopted by the members of the Men's Ministry of Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter. Both have provided men in leadership positions and financial resources to ensure the success of the troop.

 

Troop 1906 is now in its 14th year of existence and has sought to promote the aims and ideals of Scouting, and instill in young men within the troop the characteristics of Integrity, Scholarship, Self-Sufficiency, Teamwork, Leadership, and "Scout Spirit."

 

The successes of Troop 1906 are due in largely to the shared vision of Dr. White, the members of Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Men's Ministry of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and the men of Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and other volunteers to instill in young African American males, reverence for God, integrity, confidence, self-sufficiency,

teamwork, and leadership.
